  1. Yes, by law they can fly the flag, but they are flaunting it in order to get a reaction. Placing it in the bed of a pickup truck and driving it all over town is an attention seeking display. Thanks for the pics, now we all know what idiots look like.

  2. Well then, I guess a bumper sticker on the back of a car could cause a reaction too....?
It's America where people are supposed to have freedom of choice.... If you don't like what someone has on their vehicle don't look and if you do and get upset that is on you and if you act out cause of it your then the one who is "seeking attention"...........
Maybe they want attention maybe they don't what's it to you?
I think the ones wanting attention are only the ones that have a problem with what someone else's chooses "display" on their own vehicle....
Do people that hang flags up at their house want attention and reactions too?
Seriously as Oprah would say the slave days are long over it's a flag and people have a right to display it, what people don't have the right to do is react violently because of it............

  3. Oh, Mr. Vines, you may want to speak with legal counsel before posting something like this.

  4. If the south had won the war, would the young, black man pictured be willing to live under this flag? This photo speaks volumes to what was and what still is. True Columbians burned our bridge to keep this flag out of here. Some of these brave men are buried in Mount Bethel Cemetery. What a disgrace to their memory. You keep saying history, but do you really know it?

    1. Both people died on either side these were men who stood up for what they believed in and some even died for it........
Freedom of choice to believe in and support your beliefs any one who has a problem with that is prejudice themselves..... It's a bag of mixed bones...... On one hand yes to some it is a symbol of hatred/history on the other hand to others it was their belief that they were willing to die for.... Let it alone..
To many have already died for that flag let's not make it anymore eh? Don't even put your energy into it....
I think the bridge was burned down to keep the rebels out cause they didn't want to fight........

  5. Let this flag be displayed in a museum or at Gettysburg and find a new cause to be passionate about. What would your grandparents think of the way you are behaving.

  6. This was instigated (in part) by one loud, foul mouthed, kid. He continued to stir up trouble yesterday at Plane and Manor Streets, by loudly disrespecting a black police officer and by taunting the black guy in the bed of the pickup truck. Send this kid back to New Jersey. If he wasn't here visiting maybe this would not have escalated to what we saw yesterday. This kid is looking for a fight.

    1. Taunting a black officer? I was there. The black officer spoke to him for 45 minutes afterwards. Actually the kid was out of town and his family didn't know he came back until yesterday. But guess what? He's gone again. The black officer you say he was "taunting" helped his family get him out of here and back to where he belonged.

  7. Come on people... It's not about the flag. It's about some fool driving around hiding behind a flag.... Fly whatever flag you want but don't go driving around thru town and yelling out racial slurs. Don't go putting on a parade that you know is going to incite more violence. The problem isn't the flag it's some of the people flying the flag and looking for their 15 minutes of fame. From what I saw the police did what they needed to do to prevent another Baltimore, Charleston, etc. I saw more officers trying to talk to people than arresting...

    1. Also in this boy's defense it's not his fault people can't control themselves again they are just in my opinion looking for a pathetic excuse to justify violence they chose to act on.....
Alleged name calling and flag waiving isn't violent at all and again it's not his fault if people can't keep them hands to them selves those kind of people I think already have anger issues and just looking for that pathetic alleged excuse/reason to act on that stored up anger..... They should try counseling, or therapy in stead of violence and the blame game and trying to bust his balls
Let him alone and mind your business

  8. Please READ comment again to understand, no where does it say he was taunting the officer. It states that he loudly disrespected a black officer, I too saw this and that is what he did. He also yelled and taunted the black guy that was in the bed of the pickup truck parked on Plane Street. This big mouth kid then left the scene walking west on Manor toward Florence Street. Please read comment again.

    1. Again regardless of the kid no one has the right to treat him violently or start violence because of it......
Turn your head if you don't want to see it no one is forcing anyone to stand on the streets.
No excuse so leave the kid alone cause the way I see it those who don't they are the ones causing the problems....
But people in Columbia have a habit of not minding their business and acting violent
Why become part of the problem? Act better then that

  9. To quote: he said "f#!k that black cop". Perhaps it's my interpretation, but that sounds disrespectful to me.

  10. Well, sorry. Misread that. But he did say sorry to the officer afterwards when they spoke privately and the officer got him to calm down.

Yes, he is/was disrespectful but how would you handle the death threats? Some made by the man in the picture.

It's embarrassing to have this going on in Columbia. Columbia is a diverse town and my family and I love that about Columbia. Hope this dies down.

  11. What do you mean by saying "leave the kid alone"?
Seriously, WHAT? Leave the kid alone, when he already stole property on Monday evening, now he shows up on Saturday afternoon and yells obscenities at a cop and taunts another teen. This IS everyone's business, as WE will be supporting this kid soon because it looks like he will be headed for prison. He has all the qualities of a loose cannon.

    1. I meant just that leave him alone those hating on him are the pot calling the kettle black why generate more hate be better then that.
Loose cannon or not he wasn't hurting anyone they went into his truck according to the self defense law well here I'll post that section for you
(2.5) Unless one of the exceptions under paragraph (2.2) applies, a person who unlawfully and by force enters or attempts to enter an actor’s dwelling, residence or occupied vehicle or removes or attempts to remove another against that other’s will from the actor’s dwelling, residence or occupied vehicle is presumed to be doing so with the intent to commit:
      (i) an act resulting in death or serious bodily injury; or
(ii) kidnapping or sexual intercourse by force or threat.
So according to this section of the Pennsylvania self defense law some one who enters or even as it states attempts to enter does so with the intent of subsections (i) and (ii) above... According to that section of law He had every right to defend himself at that point if he felt he needed too......

    2. Correction to this above post....
My bad i had my stories mixed up I was referring to a similar incident in which a man/ kid actually did enter an occupied vehicle that he had no right to do.........So generally speaking if you violate that section of law the person your violating has the right in a case like that to defend themselves.....
I made honest mistake and sorry about that I'm only human not God.......

  12. Just because someone says things that one may find offensive doesn't give people the right or even justify them acting violent or attempting to steal property because of it.
I believe those who have a problem with someone's choices are wanting there fame.........
Sure I think it is ignorant but again that doesn't give people who oppose it the right to act worse than an alleged name caller or flag waver.... Grow up people and quit looking for lame excuses to justify that kind of pathetic behavior...Is it that hard for those offended to mind their own biz? Or call the cops? Or ignore Really???
People need to quit worrying about what others do and start paying more attention to themselves

  13. LET IT GO, LET IT GO, LET IT GO!!!!! Everyone quit playing into this bullshit it will go away. Both sides where wrong and whole situation should've never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Honestly, you really think that this is just going to go away? Naive.

  15. People need to see themselves in these pictures, in order to realize how stupid all this fighting really is. Take a good hard look at yourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  16. How simplistic, if we all just stop talking about this, it will go away. Wish it really was that easy. Some people live in a world where what they choose to ignore, does not exist. Selfish.

    1. Yeah and some people just look for an excuse not to ignore which would make it go away but they'd rather act like animals and keep the drama going instead right?
There are little children in this town that don't need to grow up to do the same so teach them young to ignore what their momma's or pappa's don't like but that would be the right and mature thing to do and by the pictures and reports in my opinion most have a hard time doing that. They have my pity especially the kids............
If people put that much energy into taking care of themselves and their kids they wouldn't have time to play into the b.S.
