Frey to retire from Columbia school district

Diane Frey, assistant superintendent of the Columbia Borough School District principal of Taylor Elementary School, will retire at the end of the school year.

Frey is the third major administrator in Columbia to announce their departure this school year. Last month, Park Elementary Principal Debra Wallace announced that she would retire after the spring semester. Last fall, Superintendent Barry Clippinger announced that he would retire in June.

On Thursday the Columbia school board unanimously approved Frey's retirement, which will be effective June 30.

  3. just finished reading columbia news views and reviews....this sums it up...WOW. last night was boro council committee of the whole mtg....the Boro is in debt $15.5 MILLION....let me repeat that....$15.5 MILLION.also, the last hour of the 4 plus hour mtg was spent discussing the Municipal Authoritys decision NOT TO SELL THE SEWER PLANT and Norm having the audacity to say they may have acted in haste...NO NORM, THEY DID NOT.....they made the RIGHT/CORRECT DECISION and...ALSO-LASA HAS A 7 PERSON BOARD YET NO-NO ONE FROM THE BORO COULD OR WOULD HOLD ONE OF THOSE SEATS......REALLY??
    THANK YOU MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY !!!!!!!!
also, council hired a part time police officer at $20 an hour....advertising to hire a SEWER ENFORCEMENT OFFICER at $45,000 up to $65,000 with benefits for WHAT REASON????
this Boro does NOT need an SEO...the VERY FEW residents that need one, hire and pay for it out of their own pocket the way it should be at a VERY minimal cost. WHY??? the highway dept and wastewater plant BOTH are short handed, THESE are the positions YOU should be filling ! the laboroers... also one of the councilors said its time to take back the town...I WISH....but sorry, you may be a little too late...say No to all this spending-we are $15.5 MILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT ...............AND THEY KEEP SPENDING LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW..no wonder more and more COLUMBIANS continue to move out. we can NOT afford it and NO ONE IS LISTENING.. read columbia news views and reviews !!!!!! thank you for that article.

  4. seriously? I just wonder what the retirements of these 3 TOP MGMT positions is costing us taxpayers??? my guess would be Somewhere in the 1/2 million $$$ range, maybe more.
NO. do NOT hire any replacements for none of these 3 positions. we can NOT afford it. and NO you can not and should not raise our taxes again this year. this is totally unacceptable and it IS time to stand up and say NO. no more. the gravy train ends here. close all the schools if you have too. they are killing us one by one. and the education just isn't there. if your children are not motivated and smart and learning doesn't come easy for them, guess what.....they will fall thru the cracks, they will not excel, they will not be given special opportunities-for the very few...sad, but true. COLUMBIA SCHOOL BOARD-FACE IT, ITS OUT OF YOUR HANDS NOW. IT HAS TO STOP. NO MORE RAISING TAXES. WE CAN'T KEEP OUR HOMES, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE CAN PAY MORE TAXES???? YOU NEED TO LIVE IN THIS, OUR REAL WORLD. all ya'll need to speak up. now is the time

  5. So where do we speak up? The council meetings are too long, few attend, and there are minimal opportunities to speak your concerns.

Even if you do- they will not be addressed. The only way this might change is if it aligns with Council or one of the tedious but powerful commmittees own agendas.

They do not represent the citizenry of Columbia.

    I wish this would change.

  6. yes i too wish this would change. and NO they do NOT represent the citizenry of Columbia...this is why it's time-for change. time to take back whats ours. the ONLY way to try to make a difference is to attend mtgs in numbers. we must band together.

  7. talk to friends and family members & start attending mtgs...just to sit and listen at first, get more people to attend, get comfortable with how mtgs are run...or dive i head first!
there are hundreds of very unhappy residents inthis boro (maybe thousands) it's time to DO something...instead of just complaining-act. attend mtgs. council and school board. it's 1 mtg a month for school and 2 a month for council. talk about what goes on, what you don't like, what you may like, discuss it...(like y'all do with sports :)
that should be our motto "DISCUSS COLUMBIA"

    1. Our representatives represent US. (That's the theory anyway.)

  8. OUR reps are SUPPOSED to represent US...this is not happening. not with school board and not with council....that's the problem.narrow minded, using thier own agendas/opinions

  9. i don't understand why no one is attending school board mtgs....we all should be. 3 top mgmt positions all leaving, costing us a fortune and you know they are gonna want to fill all 3 of these positions....and we read here and another blog that mr school board president has been grooming to take the top spot.....NO WE CAN NOT LET IT HAPPEN. THE GRAVY TRAIN STOPS HERE. IT'S TIME TO TAKE BACK OUR TOWN. what the h? the school board acts like theres thousands of studetns attending our schools....too small. not that many students. do NOT need all these mgmt positions.
