Again, someone needs to do their homework. As we have seen historically, Columbia Borough council AND the Columbia school board are very good at sticking it to the residents. Ollie is correct!
sorry, but some people are uneducated and don't have any idea what this entire thing is all about! THE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY MADE THE right DECISION. it makes absolutely no sense for the boro to NOT own the sewer plant....it's the only money making enterprise the boro has. theres a lot wrong here. LASA has a 7 member board but said NO - no one from Columbia can or would sit on that board IF the boro went with LASA....next, the BORo would still be responsible for the sewer lines. LASA didn't want them...it could cost a million $$$$ to go under the rr track...norfolk southern is not the friendliest entity to work with. the sewer plant is AN ASSET....why do you think LASA is even interested...it has NOTHING to do with columbia boro -we're landlocked..you know, this battle was taken up more than 4 years ago and went thru the whole nine yards and it was decided then also NOT to go with LASA......go figure. thank you Municipal Authority for doing the right thing for the BOro.....sincerely, a taxpaying homeowner who lives in the boro.
sorry, i've only read 1 complaint in a boro of 10,400 + residents! That in itself says something. Again, as I've read from someone else-THANK YOU MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY - YOU DID THE ONLY THING-THE RIGHT THING!!
I will never understand. Even educated people don't "get it" "don't understand" the scheme of things. This is truly one of those times when you really have to be hard headed to NOT understand the whole picture here. I also feel that the correct decision has been made. There is a whole lot of research, heart and soul, thought, etc that went into this decision. How dare you complain when you are too whatever to attend any of the mtgs and ask questions. Best decision definitely!
Just read Columbia News Views and Reviews. This is wrong. Theres much more to it than that. The 1 resident does not understand the whole process....LASA is wrong. they do not care about Columbia or its residents, they only want the many millions of dollars to hook up....which in most likelihood would cost even more millions...yet, they do NOT want the infrastructure! What does that tell you. The Boro would still be responsible for all the sewer lines...Also, LASA has a 7 member board, when asked if a Columbian could have a seat on the board the answer was a BIG NO. and that NO sounded like NO NOT EVER without speaking those words. WHY? becasue they not interested in Columbia. Just our money. the Municipal Authority does an awesome job of doing its research and actually caring about its residents.
to all columbia taxpayers - THE SCHOOL BOARD IS WHERE YOU SHOULD BE PUTTING ALL YOUR 100 % ATTENTION. GO TO THEIR MTGS. THEY WANT TO RAISE YOUR TAXES AGAIN THIS YEAR. THERE ARE 3 TOP MGMT PERSONNEL LEAVING-DO YOUS HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH THIS WILL COST US ?????? AND ON TOP OF THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD PORESIDENT, DON'T FORGET, IS TRYING TO MOVE RIGHT INTO THE TOP POSITION. NO. STOP THE SPENDING. WE CAN NOT AFFORD OUR TAXES, FOR GOD'S SAKE, WE ARE LOSING OUR HOMES, OUR JOBS. JUST WHAT DON'T YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND? THIS IS FOR REAL, NOT IF, WHEN OR WHY....IN A COUPLE MONTHS, YOU'LL BE PAYING MORE IN TAXES.
Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the decision makers in Columbia are screwing ALL of us. WHO is saying the Municipal Authority is a money maker? A money maker for who? Then why do my sewer rates continue to climb if it is a money maker? It is a money for the M.A. and I'm tired of paying the ridiculous rates!!!!
really? i suggest you do your homework! our sewer rates could be DOUBLE what they are now. focus on the school board though. NOW THEY ARE REALLY WASTING OUR MONEY. AND RAISING OUR TAXES AGAIN THIS YEAR...
The columbia water company is privately owned, and i said for along time to buy them out BUT it never happend. They recieved a grant for over 15 MILLION DOLLARES!! Why cant Columbia Borough get any GRANTS for the sewer plant!! columbia Borough had months to do something and figure something out. Instead, they sat on their ASSES and waited for what!! This town is just going nowhere fast!
why make such a big deal out of 1 complaint-there are more than 10,000 residents in this boro and ALL could have attended any and all public mtgs in regards to this matter and many more. don't t make comments u can't back up.....do your homework first and foremost. THANKS FOR MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION!!!!
all sewer plants (except new ones) are non-compliant! There are a LOT of residents, etc in favor of this...there are also more details than the same couple they keep repeating....read the whole story...it starts about 4 1/2 years ago, when this came up, boro held numerous public mtgs and then the residents spoke too....loud and clear...NO TO LASA.....it was supposed to be a done deal. however, guess norm thought he needed to get another proposal from LASA. nothing changes, except the numbners-the costs are even higher to hook up with LASA now. and frankly THAT WOULD BE THE WORST THING THIS BORO COULD EVER DO......
like someone before stated....IMPORTANT TO CREATE A PROGRAM TO DROP OFF ALL UNUSED AND/OR OUTDATED PRESCRIPTION MEDS AND ALL OVER THE COUNTER MEDS...by keeping it out of our trash and not putting it down our drains..will be HUGE in the efforts to clean up our water and the water in the Susquehanna. two fold! THIS IS HUGE AND I THINK EVERY BORO, TOWN, MUNICPALITY SHOULD SPEND THE TIME AND MONIES TO BRING THIS TO REALITY.....(instead of wasting our money to stupid stuff or stuff we do not need-ie: new equipment, new vehicles, hiring an SEO for the boro, and the school district really needs to get on board. before the residents demand it!
It all comes down to the boro is too small to afford this. I own property that uses Columbia sewer service & propert in LASA territory. I broke down my sewer costs & I pay more than twice as much for Cola sewer than LASA.
the headlines are frustrating! 1 resident wasn't challenging the decision-i think he was just voicing his son's opinion (who should have attended himself - he lives in florida-becausae he clearly didn't give his dad all the info and homework and research!
As a former project leader at a fortune 500 co., & a business owner I would do nothing other than state facts. The information my dad presented at the meeting was obtained directly from sewer bills of both authorities. If you or anybody else can dispute this with real facts I"ll be glad to go along with your side. Why would Columbia not allow LASA to submit a proposal to take over the whole wastewater business for the boro like the townships surrounding us did. Do we have leaders who think they are smarter than those running West Hempfield, & East Hempfield Townships. This is a FACT LASA has offered to take over our whole operation. The misinformation that LASA will not let Columbia have a vote on LASA's board is very misinformative too. Of course they won't let us have a vote when our reps only want them to do a bulk services agreement. Ask them to give us a vote when we sign an agreement like the other townships signed. You brought up about facts, lets start bringing actual facts out on these blogs & at these meetings. Thats what will give the customers of the sewer system the best results. Not misinformation that only benefits a few.
wow. you have NO clue. You have No idea....you need to read, study, research and then, YOU bring your facts (which are not true)....if you are going to say someything,. you really should KNOW what you are talking about....UNBELIEVEABLE. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT....REALLY. YOU DON;T....YOU ARE THE ONE PRESENTING MISINFORMATION. BAD MISINFORMATION TOO. IF YOU WANTED TO REALLY TRULY KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON YOU SHOULD HAVE ATTENDED THE MTG YOURSELF. AND SINCE YOU LIVE IN FLORIDA, WHAT DO YOU CARE.....THE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY DID THE RIGHT THING.....non of what you said is a fact, or the truth for that matter....stop blowing smoke.
First off I am a customer of Cola sewer & a big one at that. This impacts my customers & I greatly. Due to the fact that only Cola sewer officials are the only ones making their presentation, people at the meeting are only hearing their side. Lets invite LASA officials to the meeting & let them make their presentation for taking over the wastewater system of Columbia. we are surrounded by townships who have gone down this road maybe we could also ask them why they chose to go to LASA for their services rather than build their own sewer plants & maintain them.
If you cant make an intelligent answer other than to call a person an idiot than you dont belong on this blog. I write facts in this blog & all you come back with is accusations with no basis. LASA has been there but there not allowed to present there best option to the boro without us limiting them to only a bulk agreement. I just hope in the end that an agreement is made that benefits many & not just a few.
Just for the record, the above comment is not mine. My comments are always accompanied by my avatar (the guy in the top hat), as seen here on the left. Cole
thanks Cole!!!! some people really need to do their homework. if you did NOT attend any of these mtgs yourself-you can NOT rely on anyone to give you the whole story, nor all the detsils. nuff said. still gonna tell u to do your homework. you can NOT listen to rumer mills and repeat it as fact- it ain't truth.
what a shame and how unfair! one person (who chose NOT to follow the action the past 6 years or more) makes a couple remarks and it gets blowed all out of proportion! this decision has been years in the making and was a long road. there were open public meetings and shame on you if you didn't care enough to attend all these years. and now you want to throw stones....and misinformed ones at that. the school board is looking for someone to shake thigs up! they are raising our taxes yet again AND they have 3 of their top most valuable superintnedents/principals ALL leaving this year.....that's about a HALF MILLION DOLLARS (AT LEAST) ....NO do NOT replace any of these positions...there is no reason or no need to have so many administrative positions for such a small school district.....
Again, someone needs to do their homework. As we have seen historically, Columbia Borough council AND the Columbia school board are very good at sticking it to the residents. Ollie is correct!

ReplyDeleteYou're right. God only knows what's in our water. And yes, the borough wastes a lot of money on unnecessary items.
