"Women Veterans" is the theme of Columbia's Memorial Day Parade 2022

Columbia Memorial Day Parade will be held Sunday, May 29, beginning at noon. Event kicks off with Bainbridge Band Patriotic concert in Locust St. Park in the Gazebo, followed by Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. with speaker Jeffrey G. Butch, remarks from the mayor, a ceremonial wreath laying and a 21-gun salute, followed by playing of “Taps.” The parade, with women veterans as the theme, will start at 2:30.

Man sentenced up to 12 years in state prison for burglarizing Columbia apartment at 7 a.m.

MAY 26, 2022 
A man will serve 5 ½ to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty to burglarizing a Columbia home and being sentenced by Lancaster County Judge Howard Knisely last week. 

John Roy Gerfin, 54, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of burglary after he entered an apartment in the 200 block of North Second St. occupied by a mother and her 11-year-old daughter on December 16, 2021, around 6:59 a.m. He was sentenced last Thursday.

Columbia Borough tweaks start and end times for high and middle school

Currently Columbia Borough middle and high school students start their school day at 7:50 a.m. The middle school dismisses at 2:40 p.m. and the high school dismisses at 2:50 p.m. Under the new schedule, both middle and high school students will start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:05 p.m. The changes will not affect the amount of instructional time students receive each day.
