Restaurant Inspections - Columbia Borough - October 25, 2024


The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.

Parma Pizza & Grill232 Locust St., Columbia, Oct. 18. FailThe person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. The owner/person in charge has failed in his duties by not ensuring employees can wash their hands properly by having the water turned off at the hand-wash sink in the front service area. Food employees are not able to wash their hands due to the water being turned off at the hand-wash sink in the front service area. An employee's open beverage container was observed on a pizza preparation table in the back. Food employees observed preparing food while not wearing a beard cover. Genoa salami and pepperoni were held at 52 F and 54 F, respectively, in the pizza station, rather than 41 F or below as required. Commercially processed, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature-control-for-safety food (hot dogs), located in the walk-in cooler and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature-control-for-safety food (assorted foods) prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler and the pizza station, are not being date-marked. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature-control-for-safety food frozen by the facility (deli meats and lasagna) and then removed to thaw for use is not being date-marked when it is removed from the freezer. No labeling observed on two bottles of clear liquid stored in the pizza preparation area. Observed a nonfood-grade paint brush, with noticeable rust, being used to apply garlic and oil on baked items. Old food residue observed on the can opener blade. Observed dust and webbing on the exhaust pipe over the pizza preparation table. Observed a metal scouring pad in the hand-wash sink in the front, indicating uses other than hand-washing. The hand-wash sink in the back food preparation area was blocked by several stacked buckets and not accessible at all times for employee use. The ceiling in the back storage area is not finished, observed plastic draped in some areas due to ceiling leakage, and holes observed in the insulation sheets. Exposed insulation hanging from the open ceiling tiles in that food storage area in the back. Back door to the outside, located in the food storage area of the food facility is being propped open. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the back food preparation area. Observed a live mouse running across the floor in the basement. Old unused equipment stored in the food storage area in the back, should be removed from food facility. Extreme clutter observed in the food storage area in the back. A working container of cleaner was stored on the same shelf with boxes of brownie mix in the front service area.
