Columbia council discusses parking issues | Community News | lancasteronline.com

When: Columbia Borough Council meeting, Oct. 10.

What happened: Three residents who complained about the width of a single-family home's new driveway opening discovered the borough only regulates commercial driveway exits and entrances.

Details: Recent renovations to 801 Walnut St. include cutting 36 feet of curb to create an opening for a four-vehicle private parking area for a single-family structure. The borough limits the width of an opening for a commercial parking area to 30 feet, Mark Stivers, borough manager, told council members.

Quotable: "We really don't have set standards for residential" parking, Stivers said via phone Oct. 16. "It's something we should have caught."
