Musicians jammed again this past Thursday at 4th & Locust (Columbia Presbyterian).

Unfortunately, this was the last such outdoor concert this season but not necessarily due to weather. The borough is shutting them down due to noise complaints. A source tells Columbia Spy that they will move indoors at the church.

Tree cutters attacked the old sycamore again this week.

It's being removed to make room for a Majik Appliance store at 921 Lancaster Avenue.

At the October 26, 2021 Columbia Borough Council meeting, Councilman Todd Burgard said the tree has historical significance to the borough and that he wanted it to be protected. Unfortunately, the tree was already slated to be cut down to make space for the new appliance store building. Mayor Leo Lutz said it's a grand, old tree and he'd love to see it stay, but that it could present problems in the future. "That's progress," he said.

Here's how it looked at the end of the week. A source close to the project said building demolition will begin this coming week.

Speaking of tree-cutting, the Columbia Chainsaw Massacre took place this week when workers from Pittman seemed to attack every tree in town. They even cut over cars and private property to clear limbs away from electrical wires.

Meanwhile on the 100 block of Locust, the Eberly Myers apartment building project was moving forward.

Apparently, the Amish don't wear hard hats, not even on a construction site.

On Thursday, this huge crane plopped down in the middle of Locust Street near Bank Avenue. Traffic was blocked for several hours. There were no flagmen or ROAD CLOSED signs indicating the closure. The pickup truck shown in this photo was unable to fit past the equipment and the driver had to drive it back it up the street in reverse.

This praying mantis was out and about during last Thursday's warm weather - maybe its last gasp for the season.

This US Army Medivac helicopter flew over many times this past week.

Many residents saw this dazzling sunset Saturday night.

Here's one of the last few historic brick sidewalks in town, complete with moss. It's on the 600 block of Cherry Street, right next to Mount Bethel Cemetery.

Last but certainly not least, Columbia Borough Councilman Howard Stevens (at the red arrow on the far left) sent this photo, along with the following caption:

"Went on a Veteran's trip Yesterday to Washington DC, they gave us Breakfast at the school. When we got down there, we visited the Vietnam Memorial and the WW2 Memorial, Applebee's supplied lunch. We went to see the changing of the guard at 2 PM. Drive by the USMC memorial. When we got back to the school, they had a banquet for us. Very nice day, also a Motorcycle club of 60 escorted us to the Maryland line. Even received gifts. All Free, this was their 17th trip with Vets to DC."
