Columbia resident files Sunshine Act complaint with District Attorney's office, Council President declines to comment

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said it will not investigate an alleged violation of the state’s Sunshine Act by Columbia Borough Council.

Borough resident Sharon Lintner filed the complaint after she said council voted on a funding matter in executive session during a November meeting.

“That vote should have been taken in public at the Nov. 7 meeting,” Lintner told LNP on Tuesday. “I felt that was not right because we weren’t privy to where that money came from.

Actually, the detective and I discussed different approaches to resolve the situation. We were both in agreement to send the letter rather than initiate any investigation at this time. The fact that the council president is still unwilling to admit any wrongdoing is the very reason we need someone else in there that is going to be transparent. The old deny, deny, deny, or is it lie, lie, lie? For clarification, I never used the words executive session, I used the words private meeting.

This Council...Mgr is WHAT you all should focus on. Plus - The School taxes increase EVERY year. Why don't residents attend their monthly meetings? The school district needs to remove ALL the assistants, superintendents, strickler, etc....they all make $100,000 per year and more..I believe up to $135,000. this is Columbia Borough we can NOT afford that. There are only a few hundred students, close the schools. Back in the day, all they had was ONE PRINCIPAL.

East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead.   GUEST COMMENTARY [Name withheld by request out of fear of retaliation] For two decades, Leo Lutz has occupied the mayor's office in Columbia, and his supporters are quick to credit him with every positive development in our borough, but leadership is a two-way street. If Mayor Lutz is going to accept praise for Columbia's successes, many of which, frankly, he had little direct involvement in, then he must also be held accountable for our failures. The facts paint a troubling picture. Despite the mayor's repeated assurances that our streets are safe, we've witnessed a disturbing rise in assaults, shootings, and vandalism.
