Well the mayor got his face in the lnp, hope he is happy calling himself a pusher. I still want to know why all of this people live outside of Columbia and have positions in town, and run home with the tax dollars paid to them, and don't comtribute to our tax base?
Ask the hambones for records and you can see them , it is not like asking the borough to see or even answer a question about something. Council president didn't answer anything ask here on the spy,he just got mad and and retreated.
The borough does support the fire company, as does the state and federal levels. Fundraisers are always helpful for a lot of reasons. Please make educated comments. Thank you.
All of the other fire companies were miss managed and owed lots of money, the hambones paid off a lot of Columbia # 1 problems,do to the borough making them merger (like there truck that was all most repoed)the borough put there name on the fire company in the process, the members still call it the Susquehanna (hambones) and wood love to make it the name again but a 10,000 dollar fee is out of the question. ALL OF THE OTHER FIRE COMPANY MEMBERS LEFT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LIKE A COMPANY THAT WAS RUN BY THE BYLAWS . That's why the hambones is still standing. Having a wife on borough council and a husband on a commity for mergering is a conflect of intrest. The same thing with the advisatory board of the crossings, this stould be looked into, it is not right to stack votes into something that the tax payers are funding.
The borough finally did come through regarding the purchase of a new fire police vehicle, but it was a painfully reluctant decision on their part.
I'll say it again, I'd rather see my tax dollars go toward funding a safety vehicle rather than a party wagon.
In addition: The comment that said, "smothered at birth" has been removed. That was an example of someone who is not secure enough in their own view to tolerate another person's opinion. Sharon Lintner
NICE ARTICAL for Columbia, to bad the negative crime articals are there but it is not the people of towns fault.Thank you mayor for pushing the 441 bypass threw, great job. It wood be nice if there were more public news of what the borough is planning and public input, I think it wood go a long way with the tax payers, maybe if the public got the whole story from officals people won't bitch so much or so as some call it. The tax payers have a right to be imformed, some officals are hot headed and won't answer questions, please work on this at the borough you are not a dictatorship so be transparent with the people who pay the money.
Only Columbia wood have a mayor call himself a pusher, seams to me there was a song that talked about the pusher man and I am don't think it was about a mayor, and it is from his growing up time.
After the borough puts money in the market house I would like to put my bid in of a dollar for it like brookline did on 208-210 locust st, KEEP IT LOCAL any way.
The borough purchasing the new fire POLICE vehicle is also helping the borough, not just the fire department. If we had no fire police vehicle in service, it is my understanding that the police department would have to do the traffic directing. I don't know who else would do it unless they would get another jurisdiction to come in and direct traffic at accidents or hire a private company. This vehicle will be used frequently, it will not be sitting idle for over eight months out of the year. It will be driven by volunteers, not $15.00/ hour drivers.
Yes the boro does support the fire dept. but the expenses far exceed the amount given. There are training costs, fuel for the vehicles, radios, pagers, maintenance on all vehicles and the buildings, water, sewer, electric, and equipment. Just to outfit a fire fighter in basic protective gear (helmet, jacket, pants and boots) is over $5000 and must be replaced every few years. As for the fire police vehicle, it is needed to carry the larger equipment and is brought out for most calls. It is highly visible compared to the fire police that come in their own vehicles. Without the fire police, the boro would have to hire paid traffic specialists to assist at a number of events. In order to direct traffic, you must be certified- especially on a state road/highway. I can't see the police dept helping direct traffic.....
Last year, the borough purchased the fire house on Front Street, thereby relinquishing the fire company of a $1 million dollar debt. Last week, the Borough purchased a $100,000.00 vehicle for the fire company. Furthermore, the Borough and the Fire Company are working through the details for allowing a property tax reduction to fireman who reside within the Borough limits. I applaud Borough Council and Mayor Lutz for their support of our local fire company.
It is bad to see the borough throw money away and a fire company have to have fund raisers to fund it's self!
