Currently, Columbia has no lodging for out-of-town guests. Information gathered suggests this would be a boost for the town. Visitors to Columbia Crossing, the Northwest River Trail, Turkey Hill Experience, the Watch and Clock Museum, Historic Society, and the many antique shops may welcome the opportunity to stay overnight.
Visitors staying longer will most likely spend more than just time here.
The study will cost under $5,000 and is expected to be finalized by August.
People have said this for years that Columbia could use a hotel. Now that council can spend money on a study it is a great idea. When the idea didn't cost anything it was a bad idea. This council just likes to spend money. Why can't the consultant we have on staff do the study? Why don we need to spend more money on a study? Truthfully if a hotel wanted to be here they would have already built. Who is going to pay to have the hotel built? The taxpayers?
ReplyDeleteColumbia needs some type of hotel. Many thought the Turkey Hill Experience site would be the place, since it is along Rt.30,Rt. 441.
ReplyDeleteIf a site would be in town, parking would be a problem, unless a developer would build a garage. If someone could do it, and not cost taxpayers anything,. it may be a good thing.
How would the developer get his money back? Oh, just make the people PAY for parking!
DeleteI agree, if it was a good idea it would already be here.
ReplyDeleteNo studies were needed in years gone by, if it seemed like a money making deal someone was willing to invest in it.
The borough officials are not receptive unless it's their idea. I hope they don't plan on footing the bill to build it too!
Working in the hotel industry my entire adult life I have always wondered why we don't have a hotel in town. I've always dreamed of opening up my own hotel in columbia. It deff would boost the economy. I am all for it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a pipe dream, there are hotels that surround Columbia and they are struggling.
ReplyDeleteCorrect, how many bed and breakfast went belly up in Columbia, wake up!
ReplyDeleteWhat's going on with the Hotel Columbia property ?
ReplyDeleteAs far as we know...nothing.
DeleteThey the people of higher ups, want to build a convention center here! Just like Lancaster did and make the tax people pay and pay and pay!!
ReplyDeleteThe hotels in Mountville always seem busy!
ReplyDeleteSo did Sears and K Mart,,
DeleteTry to find a room around here when Spooky Nook Sports is hosting one of their many events.
DeleteWe are NO Spooky Nook Sports Complex!!!
DeleteNo, but we are 15 minutes away.
DeleteLet's just have taxpayers pay for it, who cares.
DeleteGet real..
Get real? How about some real thought in one of your posts for a change? That would be real..
DeleteThere was a 20 room hotel designed and approved at 4th and Locust a while back - that might still be a good spot for a new one if the Hotel Columbia buildings aren't working
