Columbia Police will be getting a new Chevy Tahoe similar to the one pictured here.
The Columbia Police Department will be getting a new vehicle thanks to Columbia Borough Council. Council voted unanimously at last Monday’s meeting to purchase a commercial four-wheel drive, four-door 2017 Chevy Tahoe from Whitmoyer Auto Group in Mount Joy. The cost of the vehicle is $37,200 with additional charges of $13,114 to K&C Communications of Harrisburg for parts, labor, and equipment upfitting. The price includes a discount of $9,989 from COSTARS, Pennsylvania's cooperative purchasing program. “The purchase was a 2017 capital budget approved funded item, according to Council President Kelly Murphy.
The existing police department Tahoe will be reassigned to the Public Works Department for Director Ron Miller to use. The current Public Works Tahoe is “on its last legs,” according to Borough Manager Greg Sahd.
One is not enough,we need at least 3 more! This is an out rage to have these police officers sharing vehicles!! Lets get the money up and let them drive their own!!
ReplyDeleteWHY DOES EVERYONE NEED THEIR OWN 'VEHICLE?' ALL THE SO CALLED 'CODES' PERSONS HAVE ONE, EVEN HELM, WHO IS NO LONGER CONSIDERED CODES, DRIVES ONE LIKE IT IS HIS OWN. WELL, GUESS IT IS ONLY FOR HIM. ALL THE VHS. AROUND ARE NOT NECESSARY!! THERE ARE MORE 'POLICE' CARS BEING USED BY UN OFFICERS, THAN ANY OTHER PLACE! NOW THE RICH BOROUGH IS FURNISHING FUEL FOR EMT VEHICLES, SO THEY CAN USE THEM 24/7, TO DO THEIR SHOPPING, HANGING OUT AT THE POLICE STATION, OR ANY OTHER PLACE THEY JUST NEED TO GO. GLAD COLUMBIA HAS SO MUCH EXTRA MONEY. WHY DON'T THEY HIRE MORE POLICE TO FILL THE CARS INSTEAD OF PASSING THEM TO ALL THE EXTRA WORKERS?
ReplyDeleteLet's do better than that. Let's outsource the police in Columbia. It is time the were replaced!
ReplyDeletethis is 100% unacceptable, unneeded, unwarranted bs. hell with usually only 2 officers on per 12 hr shift, they have what 10 vehicles or more. what the hell is wrong with this council and boro mgr. THIS is the reason WHY we need to consolidate. time to hire new leadership. what a kick in the head to all the hardworking taxpayers in the boro-of which not that many. TOOOO many rentals with too many tenants that are on ss or welfare. do somehting about THAT.
ReplyDeletei agree. things are out of hand. wth does the police need more NEW vehcilcles for??? they only use 2 per shift. the leadership in this dept. is in need of a change. morale is at its all time low. it's positively ridiculous, unacceptable and the taxpayers need to go to mtgs to complain. of course they won't. ONLY because they know its all bs and nothing happens. they continue to do whatever they want. they spend money like they are multi billionaires. it has got to STOP. Consolidate the police. Consolidate the schools.
ReplyDeleteI agree, schools certainly need to eat consolidated.
ReplyDeleteThe police, sorry to say but consolidation needs to be looked into.
We have a few rotten apples in the bunch, I'm beginning to even doubt the Chief and of course the Mayor
Be careful what you wish for. Consolidated police means even less response time along with alot less patrolling. I'm sure your say we don't have that now but compared to what is may be is very frightening.
