Borough Council's Public Safety Committee will host talks between and among Columbia Quick Response Service and the Susquehanna Valley Emergency Medical Service on Tuesday, February 28, at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers in the Municipal Building at 308 Locust Street.
The public is invited to attend.
That's nice have a meeting at a time when most people work and cant attend
ReplyDeletei remember when QRS came to council about wanting to start up in town they SAID WE DON'T WANT ANY THING (MONEY) OR ANYTHING ELES FROM THE BORO. now look at them they are on the boro's gas account( witch they had paying in the past)want a place to house their equipment now they want to start a ambulance service. looks like they are trying to push susquehanna valley out
I believe they tried to push SVEMS out before and failed. Different bunch of kids this time, but the same Pied Piper leading them on.
DeleteWill the public be allowed to comment or just listen?
ReplyDeleteWHY is the Boro meddling in business that they should not
ReplyDeleteThis is a public safety issue. This is borough council business.
DeleteNot many people understand or know that svems has there ambulances so scattered threw out the county and they are short handed.. the qrs bringing this idea of them committing a rig to columbia boro is a great idea .. they are usually the first on the scene with the quick response vehicles now they can transport just as fast with out the wait of a svems rig that is coming out of e-town or lancaster city..i think the boro should really consider this move..its safer and benefits the citizens of columbia boro...
ReplyDeleteWhat is really needed is for LGH to reopened an emergency room facility or an Urgent Care. Maybe not 24 hours, but the hours they have at their other places.
ReplyDeleteOn the LGH issue, they have the building and grounds already, this facility could take care of this part of Lancaster County and eastern York county. The really bad cases would still be taken to LGH downtown immediately.
ReplyDeleteWith three senior citizens places, and numerous nursing homes in the Columbia area, would it be feasible? Just a thought.
For LGH to have an emergency room, like they did many years ago, they must have an admitting hospital. They tore down the Heinamen wing years ago and I doubt they would invest in building a new one so I doubt an emergency room is ever coming back. When LGH took over Columbia Hospital the administration said nothing would change, the hospital would stay as would the emergency room....how did that work out?
DeleteWould be nice to have an urgent care in town. I had a nasty incident about three years ago while washing dishes. I was stupid and put my hand in glass to clean it and it shattered. I needed stitches. Went to LGH and waited a little over two hours, with a bloody rag wrapped around my hand, until I treated.
Even with a "dedicated" ambulance in the boro, once it's transporting someone, you still have to wait for the next closest ambulance. Not necessarily a win.... Did anyone look into the average wait time for an ambulance, would this really change the response time by much? Or is this just the QRS looking to "take over" what they couldn't before and benefit only a few.....
ReplyDeleteI have some experience with the QRS and I would not want some of them taking care of me....Just because they are first on the scene doesn't make them the best.
You nailed it.
DeleteYou have a dedicated fire house in columbia to..but if there is more then one fire lancaster county would cover with different units to. The fact is on the ems side of columbia the initial call would bring the qrs transporting rig to that call and transport for that call faster then waiting for an out of town rig!! With the qrs transporting it would be just like having a columbia ambulance in town just like we did years ago..
ReplyDeleteWill there be enough business (income) to pay 24/7 staffing in Columbia? You know this isn't going to be a volunteer ambulance like the old CCAA was.
DeleteWith medicare reimbursement NO. It's already been told to the members it is not paid
DeleteHow do you know it wont be a volunteer style ambulance? My guess is that it would still have volunteers just like the qrs is volunteer!
ReplyDeleteThey may start out Volunteer, but knowing several of the parties involved it won't be volly for long.
ReplyDeleteis this rig going to be used for routine transports. if it is they will be out of service half the time.
ReplyDeleteWill the QRS ambulance provide basic life support or advance life support? Most true emergencies would require advanced life support.
ReplyDeletethey ALWAYS hold these mtgs during the day time when MOST of us TAXPAYERS work! I believe they really DON"T want us to attend the mtg.
