Columbia digs out

Columbia continues to dig out from a  Sahara of Snow.

This afternoon, a crew removed snow from the backlot of the Columbia Plaza to facilitate truck deliveries.  A backhoe loaded snow onto a couple of dump trucks which then dumped it at the lower end of the front parking lot . . .

Further down the block:  Looks like someone finally flipped at all the snow and dove in headfirst to wait for the spring thaw.

Although these guys seemed to be enjoying it.

Meanwhile on South Fourth . . .
Borough workers continued the cleanup, with several dump trucks continuously hauling snow away from the scene. Some residents are understandably growing impatient, but there's a lot of snow to be moved, and the crew is working as fast as possible.  Instead of complaints, borough workers deserve a round of applause.

The inevitable furniture has begun to germinate from the snow . . .

. . . as has this snowman.

St. Paul's Episcopal under the weather

Whoever did this did the right thing.

Even the Grinch is snow-covered.

The weight of the snow forced this spout down.

 Much snow at North Second

Most residents shoveled their sidewalks, with a few exceptions . . .

 30 North Second

It's been winterized if winterizing means closing it up and forgetting about it.

And what's a snowstorm without the obligatory bridge pics . . .

Last but not least, Columbia Crossing, blanketed . . .

  1. Excellent pictures! I was not out for a while and could not believe how bad the streets are, BUT the borough workers were doing the best they could to help clear the snow. It is an enormous job. We need to appreciate their help, after all, where would we be without it?

  2. I saw a man, dressed in tight spandex gear, riding a bicycle TODAY!!! He was waiting at the lighted intersection of Walnut Street and 441. There was NO safe route of travel along there today for a bicycle. This person could not be using good judgement. Most of the roadway was slush covered.
