$3500 A DAY! OVER $25,000 TO DATE!

That's the cost to the borough for keeping three certified flaggers from Flagger Force on duty around the clock on the 200 block of Locust Street. The block was shut down last week due to the endangered building at 208-210 Locust. At last night's borough council meeting, it was announced that the cost to date is about $25,000 - for all undertakings related to the property, including Flagger Force, fire police, police department, public works personnel, signage, barricades, and other structures supplied by the borough. Costs will continue until the facade is taken down - at least another week. The cost will be billed to the property owner, Samuel Bigler.

  1. So who reimburses the business owners for their lost revenue. Not the tax payers of Columbia the slum lord should. Columbia Boro should have had him sign a retainer and ex amount of dollars to retain flagger force. Not pay it then get reimburseed. Because he could tie it up ut courts for years till the tax payers get any money back. I say condem it rebuild.

    1. Why is Flagger Force there? The highway dept. placed barricades at the intersections just like they do for parades, craft fair, car show, or snow removal. Why should Sam pay for this service that is not necessary?

    2. It is necessary, unfortunately. Truckers try to drive through the barricade as they ignore the detour signs. I have also seen someone in a car trying to get down that street and they were stopped. I beleiieve Flagger Force is there to prevent any vehicle at all going down the street. Should the building collapse and hurt someone, they would most likely try to sue even though they went down a street clearly marked closed.

  4. wow...thats pretty good pay to stand there....$3500 a day / 3 people = 1166.66 a day / 24 hours in a day = $48.61 an hour. Who made the decision to pay that much....What a rip off. I will do that job

    1. Right......probably an expensive class and a test but still a small portion of the cost of 4 year degree and yet I know most college grads don't make $48.61 an hour even whenyou factor in benefits.
