I took these pics of the new bridge lights on the Veterans Memorial Bridge today. Currently, there are 10 lights installed. Starting from the Wrightsville side, they leapfrog (every other pier) on the southern edge for about 2/3 of the way across to the Columbia side, and alternate with the existing pole lights. One pier was skipped for some reason. On the Columbia side, four available piers remain, which will bring the total to 15 when the rest of the lights are installed on the southern edge. I assume the same number will be installed on the northern edge, bringing the total number of lights to 30 for the entire bridge. Removing the pole lights could allow that number to double, but I don't know if that's part of the plan.
About a month ago, I counted only 21 light fixtures at the borough garage along the river. Are there more on the way, or are some stored elsewhere?
I cannot wait to see them lit up :)
ReplyDeleteI assume there will be a lighting ceremony.

I don't know. That's a good question. The project is generating a lot of interest among the local communities, though.
DeleteThis project was initiated and led by Claire Storm, who recruited many other volunteers. This took a lot of work on her part, as well as three municipalities working together to see this project to fruition. Oh, and Claire also solicited and received a lot of personal financial donations for this project. She is a woman well connected and used her resources and abilities for the betterment and benefit of our community. And not once does that woman toot her own horn but I wish more people would throw her name out there with this project. We need more residents to step up and volunteer where and when you can. Oh, and by the way, Claire has only within the last year moved into Columbia from just outside the borough. Thanks Claire!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Claire Storm
