I was so glad about the last resident comment, after which the meeting ended...it went something like this: Does the rate increase have anything to do with paying for the improved security after a breach earlier this year. Thank you sir for asking them a tough question.
I wear white clothing to work and over the years my clothes have had rust stains on them from the Columbia water system. I had to drive to the water company and request the powder that removes the rust, then drive home and wash the clothing again. Being charged for the second load of water. After which I had to dry them again. Some clothes were permanently damaged. This came at a time in my life when I was living paycheck to paycheck. I could not afford the extra gasoline, water, and electric. I also went through the dreaded dual check valve that a gentleman from mountville discussed. Again it came at a time when I did not have a cent to spare. What happens to those customers that cannot pay a bill? Does the water get shut off immediately? Do the other customers absorb the cost? Also agree with Mr. Collier about the concerns years back when the streets were torn to HE-double L. What a mess they made then for those of us that remember. Shame on the men in charge, one would think that they would see that most Columbia residents are in no position to afford a rate hike.
and someone shoulda said sir does the rate increase havea anything to do with the plant upgrade???? because you the water co STOLE THE LAND......it didn't cost you a red cent.
Donald could care less how those less fortunate than him live or HAVE to live. It is all about greed. People with his fortune and more should be more gracious. It is sad to realize that he is in a position to help others and chooses to do the opposite. I can't wait for his day before God. How does someone with his education, world experiences and fortune not get it? You were not put here to be so self serving! He is a disgrace to ALL Catholics, Christians and Human beings!
YEAH AND IT COST THEM NOTHING !!!!! AND IT DID NOT BELONG TO THE WATER CO...THEY STOLE IT....THEY COULD DO THE SAME THING TO ANYONES PROPERTY IF THEY WANT IT. WAKE UP.
Why is it that sewer rates are based on water usage. When you water your flowers you pay for sewer. If they are that closely affiliated why can't then send one bill and split it internally, rather then have two sets of offices and staff sending water bills and sewer bills based off the same usage ? What a waste of postage stamps !
get your wallets out because as much as you complain NOW about the cost of water and sewer.....the Boro will most likely SELL the sewer plant to LASA because NO ONE goes to meetings (Municipal AUhtority or Boro Council) to complain...to say NO...dumbest thing you could do-the Boro OWNS the sewer plant - why in hell would you SELL it ?????dumb. go to LASA website ALL the info you need is there. Read it. The lowest cost is $82 for 3 months and at the Boro its $58.32 for 3 months...granted the Boro would have to continue the upgrade or rebuild BUT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO OWN THE PLANT ...and the sewer rates would have to increase. BUT the Boro (taxpayers) would still OWN the plant.....HUGE PLUS IN REALITY
We should not have to go to meetings. The reason we vote is so that we can choose who represents us at the meetings. If the Borough Officials that we vote for are acting in our best interest then the Borough Officials should be making decisions that are in the best interest of the people. Are they ?
Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. And that's precisely why citizens should attend meetings like these, as well as borough council meetings. Citizens need to make their presence known and their voices heard.
Amen.....you have no idea how anyone votes if you do not attend mtgs...then it doesn't matter how you think they should vote (according to them)...wrong! Boro Council mtg tonight at 7
...granted the Boro would have to continue the upgrade or rebuild BUT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO OWN THE PLANT ...and the sewer rates would have to increase.
Sounds like you are answering your own questions. Maybe you will see the light eventually too.
ITS ALWAYS A PLUS TO CONTINUE TO OWN WHAT YOU DO OWN....BRINGS A LOT OF MONEY IN....WITHOUT IT, IT'D BE A HUGE MISTAKE, NEVER GOTTEN OVER OR OUT OF, AND A LOSS OF SERIOUS REVENUE. LASA SHOULD GO HOME.
i can not believe the boro is even thinking about selling to LASA....people WAKE UP !! maybe the Boro SHOULD TAKE A POLL....be fair. ask the question-and tell the stats- It will cost $$$$$ to go with LASA & will the Boro STILL be responsible for taking care of ALL the sewer lines too. How much -how many MILLIONS to hook up and how much (MILLIONS) to run the line????? Tell how much it would cost the Boro to upgrade or build new sewer plant and STILL OWN IT AND STILL HAVE REVENUE ($$$$$) COMING IN...... i THINK YOU'D BE SURPRISED...CHEAPER WITH THE BORO & NEW PLANT AND STILL OWN IT. Taxpayers WAKE UP before its too late and your sewer rate goes way up and you won't even own the plant.
You know have you taken a ride around town lately???? Well I did today. I can NOT believe how many many houses are up for sale....or obviously vacant, because of losing it to foreclosure or bankruptcy or tax sale....NEVER in my life have I seen SOOOOO many homes for sale. Like someone else said a while ago. this Boro is going to be a ghost town. OPEN YOUR EYES. It's a sin.
I couldn't agree with you more! It's a sad day for Columbia. Where is our elected officials??? Why can't they see exactly what we all see??? This town is going to hell in a handbasket. Houses up for sale everywhere you look, everywhere you turn. This is the last straw. This IS going to break the "camels" back. You go with LASA and YOU JUST SIGNED THE BOROS DEATH WARRANT. Mark my words. You might as well close up shop and hang the vacant and condemned signs.
This Borough already is a Ghost Town. Columbia Borough should forget about the Sewer Plant, Buy up all of the vacant houses, and become an upscale Borough Owned Rental Town ! It would be much more profitable to charge people to sleep then to charge people to crap !
haha your funny. the Boro? surely you jest. why the Boro Codes Dept can't and don't do their job now. Makes me wonder every single day - where in the heck are our elected officials??? Certainly NOT paying attention to their own, because Codes is quite the joke about town.
Seriously??? I Just read Columbia news and views.....and I as a taxpaying resident can NOT believe that this Boro is going ahead with selling the sewer plant to LASA WITHOUT DOING THEIR HOMEWORK.....(only 1 person complained out of 10,000 plus) FOR AN ISSUE AS BIG AS THIS, THE BORO SHOULD PUT THE QUESTION OUT THERE FOR ALL RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS OF THIS BORO......AND COUNCIL SHOULD FINALLY STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND DO THE RIGHT THING. ONCE THIS IS A DONE DEAL IT'LL BE TOO LATE TO TAKE IT BACK....THIS BORO STANDS TO LOSE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. SERIOUSLY. FOR OUR SAKE, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.......what about the hundreds and thousands of elderly who can NOT afford the taxes and their medicines??? Greed. Its a sad day in this Boro and our founding Fathers are more than turning over in their graves. and the 2 to sit on the board-M. Schober and Norm Meiskey??????????? Really ??? Now that is BLATANTLY WRONG. AND COUNCIL - YOU ARE ALLOWING THIS ? SHAME ON YOU. Where do you step in? When do you step in? When will you do the right thing? Unbelieveable. Ridiculous. Stupid. Council you really need to step up to this one.
Why not sell the sewer plant, put in a state of the art Columbia Borough Air Filtration System, and charge all residents a tax to breath the clean air. It would be much easier then running the sewer department
you know actually...i don';t think the sewer plant smells anymore (it used to, but not the past year or so). ha ha your funny. but i do think the liquid manure is putrid. (that's really bad)
A man came home from work, sat down in his favourite chair, turned on the TV, and said to his wife, "Quick, bring me a glass of water before it starts"
She looked a little puzzled, but brought him a glass of water. When he finished it, he said, "Quick, bring me another glass of water, It's gonna start."
This time she looked a little angry, but brought him a glass of water.
When it was gone, he said, "Quick, another glass of water before it starts."
"That's it!" She blows her top, "You bastard! You waltz in here, flop your fat ass down, don't even say hello to me and then expect me to run around like your slave. Don't you realize that I cook and clean and wash and iron all day long?"
I was so glad about the last resident comment, after which the meeting ended...it went something like this: Does the rate increase have anything to do with paying for the improved security after a breach earlier this year. Thank you sir for asking them a tough question.
ReplyDeleteWhat security upgrades did they put in place?

ReplyDeleteThey grabbed the land through eminent domain.
