Columbia Borough and its municipal authority will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, to discuss a possible deal with the Lancaster Area Sewer Authority to purchase Columbia's wastewater treatment system or have LASA provide services to the borough.
The borough is required to find a solution to comply with clean water regulations mandated by the state Department of Environmental Resources.
The public meeting will be held at the borough hall, 308 Locust St.
Please attend this VERY IMPORTANT MTG - ESPECIALLY ALL HOMEOWNERS AND TAXPAYERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR MINIMUM SEWER RATES WILL INCREASE FROM 19.44 A MONTH TO 27.33 A MONTH OR MORE. TELL LASA NO......we, the BORO OWNS OUR SEWER PLANT AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO. THIS NEEDS TO BE PUT TO REST FINALLY AND FOR GOOD.
ReplyDeleteDon't you think this meeting is jut a matter of semantics, and the LASA takeover is all but a done deal?
ReplyDeleteThey should delay a decision until after the town meeting, so more citizenry can be heard.
It's just like losing cable, no one wants Comcast, but it's the only game in town. Just like the big fish eating up all of the guppies...
i DO THINK THEY SHOULD HAVEMORE TOWN MTGS, OR JOINT MTGS WITH BORO COUNCIL AND MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY..... please attend this mtg.....it can NOT hurt. We need people to speak up AGAINST selling the plant to LASA.
ReplyDeleteIf all us yellow bellies attend the mtgs then NO IT WILL NOT BE A DONE DEAL BECAUSE WE WILL NOT LET IT !!! Waiting to hear when the JOINT PUBLIC MTG WITH CITIZEN COMMENTS ALLOWED WILL BE................as a exorbitant taxpayer and a homwowner in this Boro I have EVERY right to my opinion and EVERY right to ask questions !
ReplyDeletethis is positively ridiculous and positively unacceptable.....all this because of 1 person questioning commercial rates????? and on top of all that, water is going up 21 to 22 % too ! THIS BORO MUST CATER TO ITS TAXPAYING HOMEOWNER RESIDENTS AND CERTAINLY NOT 1 COMMERCIAL BUSINESS WHOSE OWNER RELOCATED TO ANOTHER STATE ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO...probably HE SPENDS little or NO MONEY IN THIS BORO ON GAS, GROCERIES, LOCAL BUISINESSes SUCH AS HARDWARE STORE, EATERIES, DRUGSTORES, restaurants, local art/craft stores, barber shops, local doctors, Dentists, Market HOuse, reuzit and consignment shops, antique shops and stores, dollar stores, news stands, CONVENIENCE STORES, car wash, recycling facility, trash haulers (3) etc.
AND FOR THE RECORD , THE BUSINESS OWNERS IN THIS BORO SPEND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY ON ALL THE FUNDRAISING AND SUPPORT ALL THE SCHOOLS PROGRAMS, ESPECIALLY ALL the SPORTS. THE PRESENT BUSINESS OWNERS CONTRIBUTE UNSELFISHLY FOR YEARS AND YEARS. YOU SEE, WITHOUT THESE GENEROUS BUSINESS OWNERS OUR TAXES WOULD DOUBLE. OUR CHILDREN WOULD NOT HAVE ANY NEW sports EQUIPMENT, or not be able to attend sporting events such as Districts or States without $ help from these business owners, they wouldn't be able to hold a banquet and honor those atheletes that deserve to be honored, or the students who excel and work hard, etc.
MAYBE THIS BUISNESS OWNER COULD BENEFIT BY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH HE HAS A BUSINESS !!!! THERE ARE SO MANY PROGRAMS THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM IT - MUCH NEEDED FOOD AT THE LOCAL FOOD BANK FOR THOSE LESS FORTUNATE THAN OURSELVES, FREE CLOTHES AT A LOCAL CHURCH FOR THOSE WHO CAN NOT AFFORD ANY, A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS AND HEAT AND SOME FOOD IN THE WINTER FOR SOMEONE WITHOUT A HOME. MANY MANY THANKS TO THE TIRELESS EFFORTS OF SOME LOCAL BUSINESSMEN AND THE VFW - WHO ARE HEROIC IN THEIR EFFORTS TO HONOR AND RESPECT OUR VETERANS - WHO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A PARADE EVERY YR TO HONOR THEM, I COULD GO ON AND ON. Help fill FOOD baskets for those who would not have Thanksgiving because they can not afford all the trimmings.....TAKE the time to serve food on a holiday to those less fortunate, Making sure theres a gift for ALL the children who would not get a thing from Santa at Christmas. There are more. Maybe someone else can add to this !!
wow. good info. i would have never thought of all that! true! we all need to thank our business owners in this small Boro, because without them, our sprts programs would suffer along with the less fortunate. we ALL should thank these business owners by supporting them - BUY LOCAL !
