Columbia waste costs questioned - News - LancasterOnline.com

A business owner told Columbia Borough Council members Monday that sewer bills from his business in Mountville are half of those for a similar business in Columbia.
Given the price difference and the cost to residents of maintaining the aging Columbia wastewater treatment plant — even after proposed renovation — the owner of laundry businesses in both boroughs said he would have "no problem with (Lancaster Area Sewer Authority) taking over."
Two borough officials expressed new interest Monday in the question of maintaining the borough plant, which was last updated in 1972.

  1. wow really? first of all. nothing changed. this is one resident out of more than 10,000 and where has he been for the last 6 years when this was being discussed??? this is ridiculous to entertain 1 persons misinformation.....the municipal authority meets the third thursday of every month and always has. they even held OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS FOR THIS 41/2 TO 5 YEARS AGO...wth? I THANK THE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING.....it makes aabsolutely no sense TO not OWN THE SEWER PLANT AT A COST OF many millions and still have to maintain all the lines. this is crazy. it's a shame you aren't interested in your school taxes going up again this year and attend their meetings...they frivalously throw away millions on upgrades to our schools for transients who pay no taxes (and what their landlords pay is a mere smidgeance of what we homeowners pay).
THIS SHOULD REMAIN A DONE DEAL AND IT SHOULD CONTINUE ON ITS CURRENT PATH. IT WENT THRU ALL THE MTGS FOR YEARS.THE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY DID ITS JOB AND DID IT RIGHT AND WELL. ENOUGH SAID.

  2. I do NOT agree with the misinformation I'm reading about now. These open mtgs have been ongoing for years. Where were you all that time? This is absolutely positively non acceptable...there are deadlines and its been beat to death at monthly municipal authority mtgs and open public meetings.
maybe you should get involved with the school board and start attending their mtgs and asking why they are raising our taxes again this year??? and why they don't initiate some kind of renters tax for ALL RENTERS WHO HAVE ANY CHILDREN IN OUR SCHOOLS.

  3. JUST READ COLUMBIA NEWS VIEWS AND REVIEWS....IT'S TIME TO STOP THE INSANITY....if this 1 person has a problem, leave. go to mountiville...there are more than 10,000 people in the Boro and this is ridiculous to entertain someone who CLEARLY doesn't have one iota of what has transpired here in the Boro for the past 5 to 6 years.....PLUS there have been open public mtgs. of which if he had attended, he would know the answers....and he wouldn't say the things he says..WHY WOULD IT MAKE SENSE TO NOT OWN THE SEWER PLANT BUT CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN THE LINES??? at a cost of ALMOST THE SAME AS UPDATING AND ADDING TO OUR OWN PLANT. THIS IS COMPLETE AND UTTER NONSENSE. shame on you for NOT being concerned all these years

  6. Dear Municipal Authority, I would like to thank you for going above and beyond these past 6 years that I've been attending meetings and such, searching for answers, listening to presentations, asking questions, weighing ALL the options.....I could go on and on, but I think you all get my point. It's been a long road, but I want to thank each and every one of you for doing your due diligence!! I certainly appreciate it and I agree with "saying NO to LASA"....sorry, there is way way too much that people don't know or won't understand if they haven't been following this all these years. The majority has spoken. Thank you!
