unfortunately........and really-i can NOT believe the boro and its solicitor created a market house trust WITHOUT protecting itself...go figure. this is such a joke. only adds to more of the downfall of this boro, which surely will be a ghost town within 5 years if not before. and to add insult to injury - the millions spent on river park and it's still not done.
You're right - they forgot to add an escape clause and didn't consider any kind of exit strategy. What competent attorney could forget something that important? Those who spoke in favor of the trust didn't give a very positive portrayal of themselves, except for one, who deserves an Oscar in a new category for best melodramatic performance. Another screamed so loudly I couldn't understand what he was saying and should have been escorted out by a bailiff or other officer.
What qualifications do these "Trust" members have to represent the people? I did not elect them, nor would I, after seeing that one former Trust member is a real "hot head" and the other appears to have mental illness of some nature. I heard that the contract with the Trust is four years! Who in their right mind would set up something that long? If the Trust was doing great after a one year contract, then renew the contract. If they were doing poor after one year...they could be sent packing.
No qualifications required, except to be a member of the clique. No accountability, transparency, or ethics required either. Speaking of which, where is that Code of Ethics they were supposed to have submitted a few months ago? That somehow got swept under the rug just as this whole issue soon will be. They want to do as they please until they come to the council with their hands out asking to have their bills paid. Where's the accountability to the taxpayer?
It was said that the "motion" in question was made as the result of a handful of residents complaining. It's only a handful because the others are oblivious to what is going on in the borough. If they cared about where their tax money goes, they would be at the meetings and in turn they would be shocked to find out who is in charge of their money.
Cole, you are so right. After hearing all this I have come to one conclusion.....BACKBONE AND AXES TO GRIND GO HAND AND HAND! With that, there is NO, and I mean NO contract with the individuals on the TRUST. AS For... the dramatic queen of the evening, she asked that I go on with my life. She is so right. Except I HAVE NOT BEEN PAID! I would like my contract to be on the agenda and give me what is rightfully mine. As for the TRUST doing their job, if they were doing their job, the town would not be in the chambers month after month asking what the hell is going on?? As for the speakers on behalf of the Trust, why at the nights meeting was the council learning for the first time who is even on the trust>?? I am also concerned as to why folks stood up in defense for the trust and they have not been there at all during this journey. I also feel that the only reason the trust came last night was to be reinstated. Again, the contract does not state certain names it only states a group called trust. I would like to move on. PAY ME! Carmen
Carmen, I agree; they should do the right thing and pay you what you are owed. Doing so might restore some of their credibility which has been lost lately.
I noticed that Vern Getz referred to Barry Ford as "BA'REEE" in a snide tone of voice and later Getz referred to Mary Barninger as "Councilwoman Barninger". Respect should go to both regardless of WHICH side you are on, especially from a former Trust member.
You're right. A speaker at the meeting said the Trust demands respect, but to get it, one must give it - and in some cases - one must earn it. I saw no respect given from anyone representing the Trust, and they certainly have not earned it. The spectacle I witnessed last night only confirmed my suspicions about the Trust and its supporters, in that they were combative, demanding, and petty.
wow-some excellent points! my utmost thoughts are of course-how could anyone be so ignorant as to not protect the boro???? and they pay a LOT of money to the solicitors monthly. who do they work for ? the TAXPAYERS - that's who....and we should DEMAND action.
The council went into this venture blindfolded, and it appears to have been the solicitors who applied the blindfolds. Whose interests do the solicitors have at heart, and are these people even competent? I wonder how much we taxpayers are paying them to make these bad decisions.
Cole, I forgot to mentioned that I worked as a sub contractor and by the state law I am entitled to additional late fee charges. I have the right to demand these in addition and I have not thus far, but here's to a new bill!! I am also amazed that no support came forward prior to this night in support of the Trust until the night NONE of the past vendors, or market manager was there to defend.... it simply amazes me that the comment was made that the market was busy in the past week... Are they talking about Columbia?? duh!
the trust respects no one, not even their own d--- as--- do they deserve respect??? i don't think so. i think they deserve to be thrown in the dungeon.

ReplyDeleteI agree with several of your points, but I believe the original motion was made in response to ongoing abuses by the Trust.

DeleteYes, why did we have to wait so long to see their faces at a council meeting, when they were well aware of the trouble brewing?
ReplyDeleteRight. Why didn't they show up earlier to defend against the allegations?

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they don't just pay you. It would be mutually beneficial.
DeleteAnd yes, they were virtually invisible until last night.
i believe the boro pays THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to their solicitor every year.....
ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly. And for what?
Deletethe trust respects no one, not even their own d--- as---
ReplyDeletedo they deserve respect??? i don't think so. i think they deserve to be thrown in the dungeon.
