Midweek Update - Wednesday, September 29, 2021

Recent photos of Columbia

Amish on the roof

New sign at the DAC

There it is on the right.

New lettering, too.

There it is, above the doorway.

****************************

Work is still proceeding on the apartment building at the bottom of Locust Street.
Some developers really know how to get their construction projects off the ground.

But in the process, someone removed one of the streetlights.

And on the lamppost is a borough sign that got mangled.

Here's the wiring that was connected to the streetlight.

In the process of removing the streetlight, someone "knocked out" electricity to other lights on the block, according to a resident who witnessed the event a few weeks ago. The resident then contacted PPL. The non-functioning lampposts are now marked with yellow tape until the problem is addressed. The photo above shows one such lamppost, with a fuse attached under the tape.

Out at the Columbia Plaza, work was still being done at the new ATM station.

Across the street at the former Union Community Bank building (921 Lancaster Avenue),
this guy was taking photos of the blank sign there. A Majik appliance store has been proposed for the site, as Columbia Spy reported HERE.

There was a time when people didn't fly flags with the F-word on the back of pickup trucks.

At 5th & Cherry: There's something in that window.

Here's a minion on South 4th.

Cooper's Comics on the 400 block of Locust Street is moving next door.

He did WHAT?
(Marietta)

And finally - This here's bear country.

No Bridge Bust this year - and there's more to the story

COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) — There’s a lot to the story, but let’s begin with the end.

“Bridge Bust is canceled,” Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce President Jeanne Cooper said Tuesday. “It is not taking place this year.”

Recent photos of Columbia

Todd Stahl, president and lead instructor of Whitecap Water Rescue Training LLC, led a training session with the Reading Fire Department at Columbia River Park on Friday morning.
(See more photos of the session at the end of this post.)

Here's the statue of Hope at Mount Bethel Cemetery on a foggy morning.

Lanternflies are everywhere, even on this angel's head.

Here's a bird keeping an eye on a lanternfly sitting below it.

Cross in the morning

Here's an overhead rainbow (also called a parhelion). If you look closely, you can see a jet within it.

Two intrepid boaters headed out.

But one started hanging off the back.

Riding a wheelie on the bridge

Love in a pizza shop

Burgers for everyone!

School buses in the CHS lot

Ready for Halloween

Searching for what was lost

Wishful thinking

Here are several photos of the work being done at the bottom of Locust.
An apartment building is being built.
(At least one construction project is getting off the ground.)

And along Front Street, the ongoing pipeline project (here and below).

****************************

The river was high again this week after even more heavy rains.

Roll Tide!

It's foggy downtown. It's never clear what's going on down there.

After the celebration.
