An observation

As I was taking shots of the dignitaries at Friday morning's Columbia Bypass groundbreaking ceremony . . .

I looked between them and saw police officers down over the bank at the railroad tracks.
Why were they there?

Not only did those officers remain stationed on the lower back side of the dignitaries, there was another officer dressed in black standing on their right as well as several at Second and Cedar Streets. I certainly agree that a couple should be present but that many and their locations appeared over the top.

I attribute those conditions to fear, but a fear that might be partially justified, considering the number of unstable people in our society and the proliferation of guns.
