Snow on the field
On Barber Street, a guy wire (far right) has somehow broken free from its anchor rod and is dangling. Already, the utility pole it's connected to is beginning to lean.
I'm pretty sure the perpetrators live down the street at a converted laundromat. They stand on the porch and watch as their dog craps on properties along the street.
Being a music aficionado, I was tempted to take these, as I'm sure they're worth a few bucks, but I didn't want to get into the middle of what might be an alleyway divorce. And not being a member of the Geritol generation, I couldn't bear the thought of having to turn on the bubble machine as Perry Como croons me to sleep. Besides, I don't have a bubble machine.

It's right around the corner. Literally. It's on Cherry Street, right around the corner from Fifth.

I was happy to see that someone posted a sign about the dog using the lawn as a toilet. A dedicated group of people work very hard to keep the Columbia Historical Society in great shape for all tourists and locals to enjoy. It would be a shame to continue allowing dogs to deficate on this area. It is time for Columbia to take pride in what's left here in the way of history, but it cannot be done if the sidewalks are littered with feces. Are all the dog owners also home owners? I don't think so. In the old days, if you rented you were not permitted to have pets. Then for a while you couldn't get homeowners insurance if you kept certain more aggressive breeds on your property. Now it seems anything goes. Live in a third floor appartment with a pit bull and either it's accepted or no one is checking.
This problem is going to keep happening until the day it is decided that dogs are no longer "status symbols".
That day can't come soon enough.

we must insist that Columbia Borough sends out sidewalk clearing crews to clean it up. We pay taxes on our properties and the Borough owns the sidewalks so they need to clean it up ! Any time you see a pile - call Borough Hall and ask them to go and get it !!

are you nuts? lazy too? as a taxpayer i do NOT want the Boro to clean up my ignorant lazy neighbors dog shit. Cite the offenders. Use the cameras. The Boro should have better things to do than clean up dog shit. why aren't these offenders getting citations, and fines. from both police and codes????
I agree with the comment that borough crews should be out cleaning up dog excrement. While they are at it, they can mow my lawn and rake my leaves....after all, I pay taxes!!!! (Sarcasm intended)

that's the point - since the Borough NEVER cite people for dog crap - then the Borough should be required to clean it up, they gotta do one or the other
hold them accountable. every code officer, police officer and meter maid, even crossing guard should be able to give ticket or citation to people for letting their dog shit on the sidewalk.
How about a $50. reward for anyone that gets a picture of a dog crapping that wasn't cleaned up ? Do it for a limited time as a "public awareness thing" - and put flyers around town " CASH AWARD FOR PICTURE EVIDENCE "
that would be a start...and if it cost the boro more money to enforce something the codes dept should already by enforcing...just maybe the masses would attend a council, mtg and complain.
